How this works

Sober-Search is the recovery directory built on the principle that patients have a right to know who they're trusting. We're the only directory that:

Doesn't accept paid placement. Treatment centers and MAT clinics can never buy their way to the top of Sober-Search. Our source data is SAMHSA, NPPES, NARR, and other federal/state authorities. Sober living homes that pass vetting are listed at no cost.

To be listed on Sober-Search, providers answer the same 7 baseline questions. We don't rate you. We don't score you. We display your own answers verbatim so patients can evaluate for themselves. Patients then use the 12-questions-to-ask guide to make their final decision.

The 7 Baseline Questions

All 7 questions are required. Providers that decline to answer any single question will not be listed on Sober-Search.com. Your answers are reviewed by our team for factual accuracy. The more detailed and honest you are, the better your listing converts.
1

Ownership & history REQUIRED

Per federal OIG, treatment center ownership churn correlates with patient brokering scandals. Patients deserve to know.
2

Accreditation bodies REQUIRED

State licensing is the baseline. JCAHO / CARF / COA accreditation is independent verification. Patients deserve to know what's been audited.
3

Medical leadership REQUIRED

Staff credentials are the most reliable quality signal. Uncredentialed "treatment centers" are a major red flag. Patients deserve to know who's actually treating them.
4

MAT policy REQUIRED

Per SAMHSA 2024 guidance, MAT refusal for opioid use disorder is medically inappropriate. Patients deserve to know your actual policy on this critical treatment.
5

Length of stay REQUIRED

Per NIDA research, treatment episodes under 90 days have substantially worse outcomes for most SUDs. "30-day fixes everything" is a red flag. Patients deserve realistic expectations.
6

Discharge planning REQUIRED

Treatment is the start, not the end. "Here's a list of AA meetings" is not aftercare. Patients deserve to know what concrete support they'll receive post-discharge.
7

Patient brokering policy REQUIRED

This is THE fraud red flag in the sober living space. Per HHS-OIG, patient brokering is a primary federal enforcement priority. Asking this question itself deters bad actors. Patients deserve to know they're not being "sold."
